Environmental Mission

Our mission is to inspire you to go out into the world in pursuit of your passions and to Do Better for people, our planet, and the places you go. Our environmental mission is focusing on the following objectives:

  • To accelerate our transition to renewable energy and decrease our overall carbon emissions towards net zero by 2050, starting with a 50% absolute reduction of scope 1&2 and 50% intensity reduction of scope 3 by 2030.
  • To convert our tier-1 suppliers to at least 50% renewable energy by 2025.
  • To implement solutions to reduce our water usage by 20% by 2030.
  • To reduce waste in production and contribute to the implementation of circular business models representing 5% of our revenues by 2030.

Do Better Strategy

We rolled out our CSR strategy in 2020 to help us reach the targets set at the Paris Climate Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels – we call it our Do Better strategy. Even though our world is most likely to pass that threshold during this decade, we still set out to do our share of the job. This means we need to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030.

We want to inspire our partners, communities and competitors to do better by setting an example of dedication and resilience to achieve our objectives, with the ultimate goal to become a circular business with net zero emission by 2050.

Within our strategy, we set out to:

1. Create products that last
by maximizing durability, following a timeless design philosophy, and achieving superior and versatile functionality.

2. Reduce our footprint
by making fact-based decisions in our own operations and through our products’ full life cycle.

3. Implement circular business models
by minimizing waste and depending on fossil fuel-based production or transportation, and by repurposing our products at the end of their lives.

4. Collaborate with others of a similar mindset
- Afterall, no one achieves anything great working in isolation.

5. Be transparent about everything
- We will share our progress, wins and losses and will publish impact reports on our products and publish our annual Responsibility Report.

We commit to reduce our absolute scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by 2030 from a 2019 base year, and to reduce our scope 3 emissions by 50% per unit by 2030 from a 2019 base year. We have not established a roadmap aiming to reduce our emissions down to zero by 2050. Our current decarbonation plan extends until 2030 and commits us to do our outermost by a milestone – 2030 – that we can relate to. This enables us to remain focused solely on short-term and mid-term efforts, prioritizing immediate actions rather than making wild assumptions about what the future of our industry may look like.

Status

Our current trajectory sets us on a path to achieve the 2030 targets we have set. More details are available in our most recent Responsibility report.  We are determined to keeping push beyond those targets and reduce our carbon emissions as much as we can.

We started measuring Db’s total greenhouse gas emissions in 2019 including scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions. Our rapid growth as a business has outpaced our efforts to implement initiatives reducing our greenhouse gas emissions since our base year, 2019. However, we are on a trajectory to deliver an absolute GHG emission reduction in 2030 compared to our base year, even though it doesn’t reach the targets of a 50% absolute reduction as set in the Paris Agreements.

Almost 80% of our emissions come from material production and product manufacturing, while 15% are connected to transportation of finished goods. Our current progress and impact are documented in our yearly responsibility report
