Professional Skateboarder
Kevin Bækkel grew up in the small Norwegian city of Hamar — a place with a surprisingly rich skate history and a tight-knit community. Skateboarding was deeply rooted in his upbringing. His mother played an influential role in the local scene and was instrumental in helping establish and operate a private indoor skatepark, giving young skaters like Kevin a place to push themselves year-round.
From an early age, Kevin stood out as an energetic and naturally talented skateboarder. At just 14 years old, he made the bold decision to move to California — a move that would accelerate his development enormously in a short period of time. In an era before social media documented every step, following his journey overseas wasn’t easy. Aside from a few YouTube appearances and the occasional Christmas session back home at the local park just steps from his house, much of his progression happened quietly — though it certainly didn’t hurt being in the same skate crew as Louie Lopez, Kevin White, and Nakel Smith.
As the years passed, Kevin’s skating became progressively more powerful and fearless. He built international credibility through his ability to charge multi-kink handrails at immense speed, blending technical precision with a raw, heavy-metal–influenced approach. Known for relentless travel and consistent video output, Kevin has continuously delivered standout parts for his sponsors.
In 2018, Kevin officially earned his place on Creature Skateboards, one of skateboarding’s most hardcore and respected brands — a milestone that solidified his standing within the global skate community.
In 2020, he received his first signature shoe colorway with Emerica Footwear, featuring graphics by his close friend Hanse, a renowned Norwegian tattoo artist. Having ridden for Emerica since his early days skating in Hamar, the release marked a full-circle moment and a major achievement in his career.
Today, Kevin continues to embody commitment, progression, and life on the road — constantly pushing boundaries while staying true to the culture that shaped him.
