Db’s about to drop a couple products that really pad my fiberglass.

I’ve traveled with surfboards for more than 20 years. One of my worst experiences was flying to Nicaragua with two boards, arriving at my destination to find pumping surf, excitedly unzipping my board bag only to find both boards had been broken in transit.

I’d essentially paid $200 to lug an awkward coffin to Central America for no reason. The boards were unfixable and I was forced to spend the rest of the day tracking down a secondhand board that didn’t even suit me. First world problems, to be sure, but still annoying.

Part of the reason I joined Db was their passion for fixing this problem. The founders — Truls Brataas and Jon Olsson — met while surfing, and Truls had finished an around-the-world surf trip. (BTW: 90% of skiers and snowboarders secretly love surfing more than their snow sports.) They’ve always had better surfboard bags in their sights, and now it’s time to let the results into the wild.

The first two board bags will be revealed next week and I’m very excited about it. I have a couple prototypes in my garage that I’ve used and loved. No dinged boards. And yes, I’m biased. But several independent surf authorities have poked and prodded them and each came to the conclusion that, “these are the best board bags [they’d] ever seen.”

If you surf, I’m really excited for you to meet the new standard of surf luggage. If you don’t, well, maybe now’s the time to start.
