One designer. No rules.

Benedicte Eggesvik, one of Db’s senior designers, started this project when she realized that very few women have worn a backpack that was designed specifically for their measurements and needs. She pitched her idea, her vision for the collection, told us why it was needed and we said ‘go for it’. Our first women’s line is a family of products that celebrate the female lifestyle and let women show up and bring it all. Constructed specifically with women on the move as a muse, Bennis held over 300 hours of research studies to make sure she understood exactly what women needed from a backpack.

The result? Makeløs.

Re-imagining backpack design

Benedicte looked at the length of the back, the composition of the head, chest and neck as well as shoulder width and considered how all of these things would impact the way a backpack is worn. The straps are ergonomic, there are no external pockets and the back length has been shortened compared to a traditional pack. Hours of research went into this. She didn’t just minimize the dimensions of existing products for a better fit and pastelize the colors to become softer and more accessible. She created a whole new product. She wanted to create a bag that can handle everyday life without question; one that’s as at home in the city as it is out on the trails. A bag whose features have been considered to compliment women’s lifestyles and whose proportions were designed to mimic her own.

Meet the faces of Makeløs

The collection is inspired by individuals like Hannah from Gorpgirls and Ane from Grlshred; female founders who get stuck into life outdoors and champion other women to do the same. Their communities are all inclusive, diverse, creative and centered around empowerment, so naturally we had to work together.
