Did you know I have another job? I do. It’s with Stab Magazine, a surf media company that doesn’t actually make magazines. Because the internet.
Anyway, I wrote about Db’s new board bags for them, a review in which I did my best to wear two hats at once. Here’s an excerpt:
I’m aware that there’s a tendency for all of us to drink our employer’s Kool-Aid, so I tempered my excitement around the bags, and waited for third-party validation. I left them visible in my garage and watched friends walk by them en route to a backyard hang.
One such visitor was Stab’s own Ashton Goggans — a man whose board bag might as well be his permanent address — who immediately grabbed The Djärv 3-4 Surfboard Coffin and started giving it a physical.
“This is the best board bag I’ve ever seen,” he said. “This is literally game-changing.”
At least three other friends echoed these sentiments, which made me feel confident that the Kool-Aid wasn’t spiked.
I wrote this before launch and, if I’m being honest, I was still a little nervous. I had flashbacks to college — “what if nobody shows up to the party.”
But the response was overwhelming, as our pre-orders for The Djärv 3-4 Surfboard Coffin sold out in less than 48 hours, and The Djärv Single Surfboard Bag isn’t far behind. While I had almost nothing to do with developing these products (read: none), as one of just a few lifelong surfers at Db, I felt an outsized sense of ownership in the launch.
So, thank you for showing up to the party. All the best people are here, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to stop until forever.
